The Nitra Gallery was founded on January 1, 1965. It began its activity in the building of a large seminar – the Regional Museum of the Nitra. Still in the same year, she won the premises in the former courtyard building, where she has been living today. Exhibition in the county house opened on December 12, 1965 with the exhibition of former and then Nitriansky artists. Thanks to its exhibition, collectible and cultural-educational activities, extending beyond the city and district, the gallery was gradually awarded in 1968 by regional and regional authority since 1972. In 1980, the Gallery opened its Gallery of Young – a unique one of its kind in Slovakia, which provided space for young artists from all over the country. In 1982, in connection with the management of works from the estate of Akad. the painter František Studený renamed the Gallery of František Studený. Since 1990 the name of the Nitra National Gallery has been named. The establishment of regional cultural centers included the gallery under the Ponitrian Cultural Center, and the name of the Ponitrians Gallery until 1999 when it returned to the original and current name of the Nitra Gallery. Nitrianska galéria is a budget organization of the Nitrian Autonomous Region (NSK has a gallery since 2002) with independent legal personality. The primary goal of the gallery is to collect, scientifically process and evaluate, professionally manage, protect, exploit and present the works of all art disciplines of the 20th and 21st centuries. It currently has five exhibition venues:
Representative halls present important collective, national and international projects, curatorial research assignments, as well as complex art exhibitions. The salon is designed for chamber documentary performances. In 2001 the Youth Gallery was renewed, which maps the work of students and graduates of art colleges. It is also a space where art projects of students of art history are realized. Since 2008, the BUNKER Alternative Art Space has provided students, artists and young curators with the opportunity to experiment with contemporary art, theater, or music. The color gallery was established in 2010 and it is a space for presentation of the educational activities of the gallery pedagogue.
In 2010, the gallery created a virtual gallery on its website, which regularly presents gallery visitors to a rich collection of collections from the latest increments, as well as works of older painting, sculpture, graphics, graphics and other media. At the same time, it is a substitute for the lack of permanent exposures. In addition to exhibiting activities, the gallery offers a rich program of cultural and educational events: the Gallery of Music – a cycle of chamber concerts, 4-3-2-1 … discussions with writers, afterpARTy – discussions on fine arts with exhibitors, regular events: The Nitra Gallery Week – on the occasion of the International Day of Museums and Galleries, White Night – within the Divadelná Nitra Festival, Postmutart – a cycle of contemporary music with intermediate overlaps.
