Ružomberok, the centre of the lower Liptov region, is situated at the confluence of the Váh and Revúca rivers in the western part of the Liptov basin on the border of the major Slovak mountain ranges – Veľká Fatra, Chočské vrchy and Nízke Tatry. The town has developed into a natural trade, market and craft centre, mainly thanks to the important crossroads on which it lies.
