Hlohovec is situated between Považský Inovec and part of Nitra Highlands. The town belongs to the urban type of the lowland country according to the typification of the present country. The river Vah, the longest Slovak river, flows through it. Hlohovec is a crossroads between the historic towns of Trnava and Nitra, in close proximity to the world-famous Piestany Spa. The town of Hlohovec belongs to Trnava Higher Territorial Unit. From the point of view of the territorial administration of Slovakia, Hlohovec serves as a district town.
