We invite you to the third annual multi-genre festival Gelnica Illuminations. This year you can look forward to a varied program full of digital art, literature, film and of course music. We introduce the performers gradually, a complete program coming soon. See you on September 7 in Gelnicka streets.

Gelnica Illuminations is organized by Gelnica, o.z. Zapadnutý KÚT, in cooperation with o.z. TRAKT

The event was publicly supported by the Art Support Fund. The project is co-financed by a subsidy from the chairman of KSK.

Tractate

A vernissage of the exhibition of artist Mgr. art. Lukáš Matejka, ArtD. and Mgr. art. Štefan Oliša took place in the industrial areas of Antony’s factory (Turzovská st.17) situated in the eastern Slovak town of Gelnica. They both use digital media in their freestyle art work and they work with interactive installations and video art. At the exhibition called … TRAKTATY / TRACTATE, the viewers had the opportunity to see a micro-choice from their video art production. As can be understood from the title, both authors are members as well as founders of TRAKT, an organization based in Trenčín, with which the organization Zapadnutý KÚT cooperates in preparing the Gelnica Illuminations Festival.

Likewise, the term TRACTATE, meaning “reflection” or “debate”, mirrors the thinking of authors whose works reflect the surrounding reality. The event financed from public funds was supported by the Slovak Arts Council.

The second Gelnica Illuminations

The second year of the multi-genre festival Gelnica Illuminations took place on Saturday, September 8, 2018. Artists from all over Slovakia headed for the centre of Dolný Spiš. The festival was held in various locations. It was opened at 5 p.m. in the amphitheatre by reading works of three Eastern Slovak authors. Visitors could experience a mixture of different art forms. Lovers of literature, music, dance, documentary film, art, and digital art came to their liking. College of Arts students as well as professional artists presented their works. The organizers’ goal was to attract people to the streets and provide them with the possibility to become familiar with the latest trends in the art production.

As part of the Gelnica Illuminations, an exhibition, sound and light installation took place at Baník Museum. One part of the festival represented the videomapping “The Story of the Forest” which was projected on the facade of the Industrial Park building on Main Street, and in the interior of the park there was a dance performance by Lucie Deveckova (TRAKT) and Petr Ochvata. Visitors could also join the program through the interactive Gelnica Night Drive game on Main Street which was co-authored by Pavol Soukal (TRAKT).

The castle hill Zámčisko was an open air gallery. The festival culminated in a musical performance in the amphitheatre.

Gelnica illuminations

Gelnica Illumination is a multi-genre festival combining digital art, lighting installations, photography, literature and music, which took place for the first time on September 9, 2017 in Gelnica. Overall, the festival offered 10 projects from young Slovak artists, including members of TRAKT Pavol Soukal and Filip Kmeť. The Black Holes exhibition brought visitors to the underground of Miner Museum. People were given helmets and mining lights and could see photos of the forgotten cultural and industrial monuments of Spiš and Gemer. Photographs from the pubs of the Hnilec Valley were presented by Dominika Čarná at an exhibition titled Inventory. Part of the exhibition included period documents from the times of socialism. Art designer Veronika Kollárová presented her work on the exhibition Bločky. People could also try drawing on heat-sensitive paper. He was also interested in the digital graffiti project (Pavol Soukal – TRAKT), as well as projection at the Baník Museum (Ľubomír Slovinský – Zapadlý KÚT) or one of the classicist houses on Luther Square (Pavol Soukal, Filip Kmeť – TRAKT). Fans of the Spišskonovoveska formation Smola and Pears have pleased the concert of their favorite musicians. The synagogue, as well as the fate of the local Jewish community, recalled the light installation of Gabrielle Lenďák and Nora Žaludeková called In the Fire.

Videomapping in Gelnica

On Friday, September 25, 2015, could visitors of Miners Day event see the first video mapping carried out in the eastern Slovakia town Gelnica. During rainy weather got together dozens of people to see this unconventional project designed for public space. The projection was located on historic dominant – symbol of the city – the tower of the former town hall.

Videomapping was prepared by TRAKT ( Pavol Soukal ) in cooperation with Zapadnutý KÚT ( Ľubomír Slovinský). Video of the entire video mapping can be found below.
