Luminography, or light painting, is a technique that involves the use of a moving light source in long exposures in photography. In collaboration with partner TRAKT, the festival invites everyone to the playful Luminography Corner in Porto (OKNA Cultural Centre – Rua da Igreja de Cedofeita 27), where you can discover a different approach to capturing movement. Regardless of your age, you can use moving lights such as flashlights, fluorescent lights, light brushes, or even your mobile device, to “paint” with light and create a single image that expresses movement.

Students of audiovisual production are preparing a new short feature film entitled Ipanema which tells a parallel story about two young people. The main character is Ester, a professional dancer, dancing under the leadership of her mother. The second story is about Oliver, a boy working at the dry cleaners who writes haiku with the forgotten clothes which he returns to people with their clean clothing. Their lifelines intertwine and they begin to communicate through slips put into the costumes heading from the theatre to the dry cleaner´s. They both need to overcome their personal inhibitions and grow up. A journey of searching of personal freedom begins for them.

“The film opens up several themes about youth and change in our lives. We encounter parents who put too much pressure on their children not only in sport but also in art. Many times, the pressure is associated with fulfilling the parents´ dreams through their children,” says the director of the movie Daniela Sláviková.

“Every one of us goes through a crisis where we search for our new self, a movement towards our personal freedom we all strive for, that´s what Ipanema is about. I believe that everyone can find their own thing in our film and that it can enrich them,” adds the director.

Ester´s character is played by Petra Dubayová, viewers recognize from New Scene Theatre, from Scumbag (Sviňa) movie or from Spievankovo (music group for children, translator´s note). The character of Oliver will be played by Oliver Ruttkay, who played in Inspector Max series or performed in radio plays produced by Radio and Television of Slovakia like Malá nádhera or Načo pôjdem domov.

The script was written by Ema Nemčovičová who studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. Ema was approached by Daniela Sláviková, the director, studying at the Audiovisual Arts Studio in Zlín – the rest of the main crew is from there as well.

Students of three universities come together to make a film.

The shooting will take place in the city of Bratislava. The main location will be Pavol Orszagh Hviezdoslav Theatre which supports this project.

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Ipanema-bakal%C3%A1rsky-film-104947834925014

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ipanema_film/

Startlab: https://www.startlab.sk/ipanema_film/

Contact for media: Patrik Kubizna, patrikkubizna@trakt.sk, phone no.: +421 907 149 942

The students are looking for funds for the implementation of the project with the help of a crowdfunding page and have decided to involve young artists from various domains. Rastislav Kubica, a student of design, has painted pictures emanating the energy and the colorful palate of the film. Karolína Paluchová and Betka Bobulová, students at the Department of Intermedia and Digital Media, created prints in the form of limited graphics and staged photographs. You can find the campaign at the Startlab platform.

Students of three universities are part of this project. Young artists from the Academy of Performing Arts, Tomas Bata University and the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica.

TRAKT citizens
association has already organized a second workshop dedicated to film.

The students at
the School of Applied Arts in Trenčín studied the ins and outs of short feature
films. During 2 online meetings, they had a chance to get familiarized with
literature and director preparation for a feature film. This part of the workshop
was arranged by Martin Velič, a television screenwriter and a director who has
worked on various film projects, in cooperation with Peter Bebjak, for example.

As decided by the
organizers of the workshop, the whole lecture was shot and prepared in advance
at the Fleck coworking premises in Trenčín. The lectures may be used as a study
material for future students.

The theoretical
part was followed by the practical part where the students created mood boards.
With the help of this kind of visual presentation, they communicated their own
author intent towards the production of their own audiovisual piece of work – Self-portrait.

After presenting
their mood boards, they began shooting the scenes in their own environment so
they could depict their personalities in the best way possible. “It was
important that the participants analyzed their own personalities because it was
them who were the main characters of their own artwork.” says Patrik Kubizna,
the organizer of the workshop.

The shot scenes
were consulted with the students from The Audiovisual Arts Studio of Tomas Bata
University in Zlín after the first week of shooting. The university students consulted
the high schoolers on the upcoming audiovisual artworks in 3 meetings during 2
weeks.

The final
discussion took place on Tuesday, 15th of December, and Juraj
Ondruš, Senior Video Editor in Bumerang film productions who was a part of it,
gave feedback on the created artworks whose theme was a self-portrait. “The
self-portraits were diverse, and their different forms of presentation caught
my attention. Some of them would even succeed at admittance tests to
universities specializing in film” says Juraj Ondruš praising the work of
workshop participants.

The citizens
association TRAKT has decided to present the participants´ artworks in their
online gallery. “We are very happy that the students succeeded in creating
interesting author artworks under difficult conditions caused by the coronavirus.”

The project was
supported by the city of Trenčín, under the Youth (Mládež) grant program. Thank
you.

Project Film workshop was realized in Trenčín and its surroundings.

Throughout the week was filming a movie called Night News. Daniela Slávikova’s work was also attended by students of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Trenčín from the field of photographic design.

Thus, secondary school students had the opportunity to cooperate on a joint project with the Studio of Audiovisual Art of Tomas Bata University in Zlín. Students had the opportunity to directly experience film production and its creative process. During the workshop they also created their own outputs in the form of photographs and videos. During the main shooting day in Munich they could also try the action in extras. Professional film technology from Tomas Bata University was used during the project.

This project allowed professional shooting to be linked to a practical workshop. Projects of a similar type in which the university cooperates with a secondary school are very rare. However, they provide a wealth of experience for high school and university students learning new collaborations. Students of the Academy of Arts in Trenčín still have a theoretical part of film preparation and discussion with filmmakers. The project was organized by the civic association TRAKT, which has long been active in the field of art and education throughout Slovakia.

The film was shot for 4 days at 3 different locations. 2 places were located in Trenčín and 1 in the Munich time center, a cultural house.

Santa Lucia is a boarding boat that has been stuck in a loop of time. Its two inhabitants, bartender Krištof and dancer Tereza, are waiting in the business for the visitors. One day of winter, young economist Denis climbs on his bike in the farthest part of the city, and with a blown rubber, he suddenly finds himself directly in front of Santa Lucía. It is as if the mood is in front of the boarding house “bicycle repair” and so Denis finds himself in the room with lights, radio and Rob Kazi. Christophe will repair the bike, Tereza dances with him, but will he get Denise from Santa Lucia?

The Santa Lucia Student Film Project was born at Tomas Bata University in Zlín in October 2018. A young student director, Daniel Sláviková, took care of the screenplay of the film as well as the direction. The production of the film was provided by our member Patrik Kubizna (TRAKT).

The shooting of the film took place from 16th to 19th November 2018 in the center of Zlín, namely on a boat, which is located on the Kudlovský brook. 17 people worked on the project and the post-production of the film was successfully completed on December 30, 2018.

The TRAKT civic association enjoys new projects in the field of audiovisual production as well.

After less than a year, invited children – the winners of the Creative Competition for Digital Photography and Short Film – were invited to Banska Bystrica for children of Slovaks living abroad. On 12 – 15 June 2017, an expert commission composed of Mgr. art. Lukáš Matejka, ArtD. (TRAKT) and BcA. Matej Mazák (TRAKT) in cooperation with the main organizer of Matej Bel’s Methodological Center for Children, besides interesting prices, also a photo workshop in the plenary of the picturesque UNESCO village Vlkolínec and workshop of luminography in Banská Bystrica. In addition, children from primary and secondary schools from Serbia, Croatia and Romania worked during their stay on micro topics such as Portrait photography or Face Search (see below). The prizes and diplomas were personally prof. Milota Havrankova awarded the winner of the photographic category (LANDSCAPE, TRADITION AND SLOVAK ROOTS, EXPERIMENT) and video categories (FREE THEME). The competition was also evaluated by the Jury’s expert opinion:

The photographic and film work of the enrolled pupils was again at a good level. An interesting aspect that appeared was the nature and man. A special moment of interconnecting children with nature can be seen in the photos. In the global sense, it could be said that the nature of the competition is and will be the nature, relationships and bonds of man and nature. The jury surprised the ability of young students and students to find and find details, structures and interesting compositions. Take the camera or camera and look at the world with other eye-catching eyes. From all these pictures, it is possible to create an image of the environment in which the children live, of their relations with them, but also of the relations between them. Children’s perceptions of the jury have convinced that children from abroad have come very close to each other.

Static and moving images are gradually coming from classic digital cameras and cameras to mobile phones, giving them a new look and versatility. These new mobile forms offer fairly accessible space for the development of creativity, inventiveness and creativity. The competition of photography and short film productions has an increasing tendency of interest every year for pupils and students of Slovaks living abroad. The concept is undergoing constant thematic innovation for each year of the competition and thus attracting new young artists. The competition section is based on three photographic and one film categories.

The most prominent representation this year, 141 photos, has the category “Landscape”, which brought above standard standard. Surprisingly, a lot of sensitive approaches to composite pictures. In this category, children focused on photographing the aforementioned flora. The smallest photos 56 include the category “Searching Traditions and Slovak Roots”. This is a topic that needs to be put on and ready to capture every moment that comes under the camera lens. The one that seems to be interesting. The child’s eye is curious, the details of the ordinary eye are often blind and unknown. This was confirmed by the last third category “Experiment” with. The “Winter Landscape” photo surprised the melancholy that emanates from it. A shade of white, losing in a hillside with a river composed on the left side of the image. Haze creates a game with depth of 112 unconventional images. The prize-winning nine photographs and the prize of the rector of Matej Bel University for the overall collection of author’s photographs are a great cross-section of the competition and prove that the photo still has its loyal young supporters.

In the category “Short film and animation”, nature does not dominate the themes as the theme of free children has chosen their own themes and themes. The 55 videos logged show the growth of interest in motion in the image. Formally, a number of stop-motion animations (pixels) were entered into the contest, which pleased the jury. Children used the potential of this form of animation and used the imagination to revive the inanimate. They chanted banal themes shifted mostly formally into witty exaggeration. On the other hand, they were just videos with an attempt at a deeper subject, with narrative work, compositional play, and last but not least symbolic. The fact that children have taken this time in a more demanding way is considered courageous and their works proved that this category can be very creative.

The evaluation of the work has become fun because it will always be pleased if comparable works are found in the competition, among which it is difficult to choose. Children who have participated and those who win have a talented eye and feel. And perhaps this sensitive eye can see things otherwise lacking in the elders. Very important, however, is the experience gained by all the young creators. We are glad that this competition has become a creative and cultural engine in developing relationships and we believe that all the authors will take on valuable experiences from their competition and professional stay, which they will make use of in their next artistic creation.

A year later, the winners of the Digital Photography and Short Film Competition – intended for children of Slovaks living abroad – met in Banská Bystrica on 27-30 June 2016. The expert committee composed by Lukáš Matejka (TRAKT) and Martina Krčová in cooperation with the main organizer of the Mateja Bela Methodological Center prepared for children, besides interesting prices, also a photo workshop in the Čierny Balog plein and a workshop of pixel and luminography in Banská Bystrica. During the stay, children from primary and secondary schools from Serbia and Hungary learned about professional photography and learned how to creatively enhance their artistic practices in photography and short films.

Photography as a medium and, in particular, digital photography is now more and more popular in the eyes of professionals and the general public. Capture an interesting picture and give it a static in an attractive composition, if colorfulness is a difficult task in the past. Children have done very well with this creative task and have managed not only a photo but also a short film or animation. Static and moving images are easy to get into mobile phones, giving them a new look and versatility. These mobile forms offer space for the development of creativity, invention and creativity. The competition of photography and short film productions has an increasing trend of interest every year for Slovak pupils and students living abroad. The concept is based on three photographic and one film categories. In 2016, 635 photojournalists were presented before a professional jury (in the different categories: landscape 270, experiment 254 and action 111). In addition to the photo, 33 films from 4 countries (Serbia, Croatia, Hungary and Ukraine) were recorded.

Children’s greatest interest is traditionally in photography. The first category In AKCII presented a variety of approaches, mostly documentary character. She mapped people and situations. In some photographs, besides classical documentation, the children also worked with fine-grained stylized images. This aspect helped many photographers. The selection of the winning photos was 5 pictures, 2 of which were honored. Portrait portrait of youth and youth in black and white tone and fine vintage occupied 3rd place. A nice design in the form of generational contrast with the love of grandmother and child was placed above the cross. The winning photo shows a trio of girls on a cycle trip with a gently bent horizon that dramatically highlights an unidentifiable forced pause.

Category LANDSCAPE is a popular theme for kids that has the most frames. However, the landscape requires a concentrated focus and a perfect moment to shoot the shutter on the camera. Views of the natural and urban units also reached the winning trio. A night city in a perfect composition, or a house on the hill called Spring Mood with Grandma. An excellent moment was captured by a young photographer in the Sun Theater. The crane’s industrial arm in strong sunlight looks natural to the camera’s composer frame.

The last and also new category of the photo in the contest is EXPERIMENT. The task of the children was to experiment with light, shadow and all the settings the technology offers them. Four photos came to the final, in which a book from the book offered a sun-beam viewfinder. The First Fire is built on a distinct contrast to the orange-red fire and darkness in the focal pyramid. A fire that blows the hearth out of the image in the viewer creates a “hot” feeling. The penetration of the light rays of the street lamp over the tree crown became the dominant point of photography in the second place. The triple plan (tree, surface and ground) very nice to feel in the detailed view of the winning photo underlined by the delicate melancholy mood.

The Short Film and Video category brought up to six awards this year. Autumn rose was a time-consuming visual work, as a young photographer mapped the entire plant growth process that lasted for several days. In the end, static images were embedded in authentic animation. The animation was also central in a short, almost as out of the action film cut out, a car hobby part. A special prize was won by the Kovacice School for 6 minutes for a demanding one-stop shop. The third place includes a 2-minute animation on how the letter A was selected for the vandrovka. The current subject was very well captured by a pupil in a 3-minute film showing the risks and difficulties of social networks. The first place was defended last year’s winner from Serbia with a stopmotion drawing animation titled The Future is now. Nice idea and pleasant art decides. The expert committee is enjoying this year’s significant image quality and quality. An increase in animations and short films, as compared with the previous year, shows that children are also keen to work on time-consuming forms – such as movie media or animation. Children are actively demonstrating that they are watching and reflecting current themes and are able to give them a creative form and content from the perspective of the child’s eye.
