The continuation of Tales from Trenčín will bring visitors the story of Klara the Beauty Rider. On Friday 28 June and Saturday 29 June 2024, starting at 21:15, the story will take the audience back to 1813, when the town on the banks of the Váh River was hit by a great flood. Around 30 performers will tell the story of Clara the beauty queen and Michael the tailor through acrobatic art, music and visual effects. The performance will be situated along the Váh River (beginning at the athletics track). We will be able to watch it from the dam, moving along with the action in the direction of the old road bridge. The author of the literary model and the director of the event is Vlado Kulíšek. The animated projections within the event were created by TRAKT in cooperation with the young animator Emá Balážová.

On 16 November 2023, together with the City of Kremnica, we celebrated a historical milestone – the 695th anniversary of the granting of city privileges. The Kremnica Acropolis and Stefanik Square witnessed a unique event that brought the community together and celebrated the rich history of this beautiful city. An early evening parade started in front of the Acropolis, heading towards the town hall, and brought a wonderful experience full of light, colour and joy.

At the end, we met at the Municipal Office, where a varied programme awaited us. The Fokoš mining choir brought us an unforgettable musical experience, along with speeches, video-mapping on the Municipal Office building and folk music by the Majer family. Together we created a memorable moment in the history of Kremnica. Thank you for your participation and we look forward to more celebrations together!

Fulla’s works are leaving their home after decades – the Ľudovít Fulla Gallery and Ružomberok. The current unsatisfactory state of disrepair of the gallery building does not allow for the further display of originals of incalculable value. The consequence is that Fulla will leave his own gallery until a major reconstruction is carried out.

The site-specific performance, which is a combination of dance, theatre, music and lighting design, brings a symbolic, unique and unrepeatable farewell to the work of Ľ. Fulla. Interactive forms and a vjing projection will take place in both the outdoor and indoor spaces of the GĽF.

Festival IN A NEW LIGHT is a multigenre art festival the concept of which is an active connection of the past and the present, of movement and space, of light and sound. The event takes patronage over the exhibition part of multimedia works of art, the exhibition of photographs, dance performances, night videomapping happening, public discussion format and concerts of jazz and experimental music.

Artists Lukáš Matejka (TRAKT) and Štefan Oliš (TRAKT), in cooperation with Peter Štuller, participate in the festival with a new author´s visual work of art that was directly inspired by a couple of stained glasses. The release is planned for the 2nd of July 2021 (after twilight) on the façade of the House of Culture in Považská Bystrica.

The House of Culture in Považská Bystrica was built in September 1969. During the 70s, it was one of the richest houses in Slovakia. On the inside, it was decorated with travertine, crystal chandeliers, stained glass from glass workshops around Brno and with tapestry from Matejka. It was built during the times of Slovak normalization. Povazšká Bystrica was a very rich town – the employment rate was almost 100 % thanks to engineering plants the (even during the economic crisis). Up until 1989, when the production of arms was closed, and the company with almost 9 billion in the assets became a delicious bite for privatizers, Považská Bystrica begun to decay and has lost its status of one of the richest places in Slovakia. (source: Cooltajner, narration of J. Smatana)

The first year of the festival will take place on the premises of the Cultural Center Cooltajner and other rooms of the House of Culture OZK and its exterior from the 28th of June 2021 until the 4th of July. The program of the festival will be teased during the month of June 2021. Main partner of the festival is the Slovak Arts Council which supported the festival from the public resources.

The Festival of lights and shadow in the heart of Slovakia came into existence in 2015 on the occasion of the UN declaration of that year as the International Year of lights and light-based technologies. The aim of this step is to remind people across the world of what a significant role light and optical technologies play in the everyday life and in the future development of our society.

Our festival will bring an adaptation of a subject of MEMORY into the public space of the city of Banská Bystrica with the help of contemporary artists in December 2021. Many artists work with the subject of memory, often to record something for future generations. Others prefer to disrupt the memory in unexpected ways to change the methods by which we look at the past. How does the art influence our collective memory? And how can it inform our experience about significant events of our time?

We want to do art that tells stories. Stories about personal and cultural memory. Art is open to interpretation. Memory of the past is not a clear story. It is a combination of opinions from different points of view.

WHEN: 15. – 18. 12. 2021

WHERE: public space of Banská Bystrica

More information at: www.svetlo-tien.sk

Festival was funded by the Slovak Arts Council from public resources. Thank you.

In celebration of the 700th anniversary of the death of Matúš Čák Trenčiansky, Divadelná spoločnosť z Prievidze and the museum of Trenčin in cooperation with TRAKT have prepared a series of performed night shows about the character of the famous owner of the Trenčín castle. He was idealized and romanticized by the Štúr group. But merciless and cruel in reality. Who was Matúš Čák Trenčiansky? Master of Váh and the Tatras, an important figure in the Slovak history. Knight surrounded with tales, about whom old songs were sung, an anonymous character up until now. Was he a hero, a warm-hearted person, a fearless nobleman or a master that was kind? Or was he a twice-cursed tyrant not repelled by murder, lies, tricks or promises that he could break? Famous romantic poets composed odes and novels to celebrate him but the church and his kings sent curses and hatred his way. Simple people warmed up under his governance but the nobility and those not in agreement were left with bloody tears to cry. Was he a religious and godly man who sung praises or was he a grinning murderer with a tanned face coming from the cathedral of Nitra? Who was he? We won´t find out today, only if asking the Death herself to arbitrate. History books describe him with sharp letters, but even there we can find kind and misunderstood spots. Legends put him on the pedestal though stories exist which send chills down the spines.

The theater exhibition about Matúš Čák Trenčiansky will tell a story that happened or maybe did not happen. It is not going to be a historical painting of facts, not even a lovely rhyme. We are meeting Matúš and his story somewhere in the middle. Up in his castle which has been towering above Trenčín up until now.

Who knows, maybe there will be some truth to our story…

20 artists perform in this play.

Re:index is an intermedia project at the crossroads between sound and object installations linked with contemporary dance, fine arts, intervention into the public space and institutional criticism, IT and an interactive game for the spectator.

It processes the phenomenon of the virtually perceived world – the real one, by using interactive storytelling, comprehending the ideology of the place through the language of contemporary art, semiotics and social paradigms. The project uncovers motives of a perceiving individual subject – as a mythical entity in a collective situation, and dramatically re/constructs possible and expectable situations on which it uncovers local social-historical relations of the place as well as current and speculative conditions of the existence of the non/place, modern rituals and infra/structures, in which the subject finds itself at the given moment.

Simply said, it is a paraphrase of a computer game, an open world story, where the spectator becomes the player in the real world, the structure and universal significance of which he/she process through a filter of current artistic and cultural considerations offering it to new experiences, movement, discovery of new senses, reflections and connectivity of networks around us. The project is focused on an expert or an amateur spectator, children, students or teachers. The aim is to create and introduce an interdisciplinary play, as a universally transferable and complete installation lasting several hours that highlights the interaction between the spectator and the environment (passive as well as active).

The premiere of the project:

07/05/2021 | Friday | 12:00 – 21:00 | Trenčín | surroundings of the Miloš Alexander Bazovský Gallery, Palackého 27

+ online stream at www.trakt.sk/re-index

More information will be added.

The project was funded by Slovak Arts Council from public resources. The project was supported by a grant for cultural events in the city of Trenčín. Thank you.
